Turmeric, Curcuma longa, is a herb used to treat a variety of aliments including indigestion, arthritis, the skin condition eczema and cataracts. The herb's main compound, curcumin, helps prevent cancer and improves your heart health. Turmeric even helps to ease premenstrual discomforts. The herb is similar to ginger, is high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is available in liquid, powder and pill form. To make an easy-to-apply skin cleanser, mix 1 tsp. of turmeric and 2 tbsps. of milk. Stir the mixture well before using. Make sure you use a clean cloth and rinse the mixture from your skin with warm water.
