1
Split open an avocado vertically to reveal the pit. Pop the seed from the fruit with the tip of the knife. Gently remove any fruit pulp from the pit and set it aside.
-
2
Spread out an old towel on a sturdy surface and place a square of plastic wrap on top. Put the avocado seed in the center of one end of the towel and fold the towel and plastic wrap over the seed.
-
3
Smash the seed with a hammer, using short, firm strokes. Continue until the seed is broken up into small, gravelly pieces. Keep your fingers clear of the hammer.
-
4
Sprinkle the seed pieces into an avocado smoothie or use them as a garnish on pasta, meat or fish in place of nuts. Put them in any recipe that also requires the avocado flesh. The seed will add extra potassium and other nutrients to the food.
