Toothache Remedies Using Whole Cloves
Toothaches are often the results of a bacterial infection to the pulp or interior of the tooth. Other causes include decay or breakage of a tooth. Cloves and clove oil are often used to alleviate the pain.-
Using Whole Clove for Toothaches
-
Whole cloves can be an effective treatment for toothaches. Place two or three cloves inside the mouth close to the area of the toothache. Saliva will soften the cloves into clove oil; light chewing speeds the process. The cloves should be kept in the mouth for more than 30 minutes.
The process can be repeated as often as necessary to alleviate the pain.
Using Clove Oil for Toothaches
-
Clove oil, sometimes referred to as eugenol, can be an effective treatment for tooth pain. Treatment is accomplished by soaking a cotton ball in clove oil and applying it to the painful tooth for an hour at a time.
Clove oil can be mixed with zinc oxide. The mixture is then used to create a temporary filling for the aching tooth. This is considered a temporary treatment and only to be used until a permanent filling can be accomplished by a dentist.
Side Effects of Cloves in the Treatment of Toothaches
-
There are no known side effects to the use of cloves by people with toothaches. The treatments using cloves or clove oil can be repeated as often as necessary to alleviate the pain.
However, cloves only treat the symptom of pain as caused by the condition of the tooth. The actual condition causing the toothache will not be addressed by cloves. A visit to the dentist is suggested.
