Herbs to Relax Bladder & Prostate Muscle
Many drugs are available to treat bladder and prostate problems in men, but some of the side affects that accompany these medicines may be worse than the actual symptoms you are experiencing. As a result, many men now are turning to herbal medicine to relax their bladder and prostate muscle.-
Herbal Medicine
-
A variety of herbs can relax the bladder and prostate muscle, such as pygeum africanum extract, stinging nettle, cernilton and saw palmetto extract. The most commonly used is saw palmetto extract because of the positive outcomes it has produced. All of these herbs can be purchased at health food stores.
Saw Palmetto Extract
-
It was discovered many centuries ago that saw palmetto extract promotes DHT elimination by lowering estrogen levels. DHT is the hormone that causes prostate inflammation. When the prostate enlarges it pinches the tube that carries urine from the bladder and causes urine retention (problems with the prostate), which initially results from a change in hormone levels. Saw palmetto prohibits any further change in hormone levels, so the muscle controlling the tube begins to relax and allows the urine to flow naturally. Once you start taking this herb, the results should be seen fairly quickly.
Side Effects of Saw Palmetto
-
Saw palmetto is a small palm tree native to southeastern United States. Saw palmetto is available in the form of liquid extract, ground, whole berries, dried fruit, tablets, capsules or tea. There are some possible side effects that may occur from this herb, such as stomach discomfort, tender breasts, or decline in sexual desire.
Stinging Nettle
-
Stinging nettle has been around since medieval times, discovered in Europe, and primarily was used to treat conditions related to muscles and joints. Today, it's mainly used for the treatment of urinary problems during the early stages of an enlarged prostate. When stinging nettle is used in combination with saw palmetto, the results are impressive. It's known to help in the reduction of urinary flow, incomplete emptying of the bladder and alleviates the constant urge to urinate.
