Herbal Gas Relief

Herbal treatments are ideal when it comes to treating flatulence. Complaints of gas have been with the human race for a long time, but herbs picked out in the wild or purchased at your health food store can alleviate the symptoms of this sometimes embarrassing occurrence.
  1. Teas

    • Teas are especially useful when it comes to treating flatulence. Peppermint is one of the oldest remedies used to treat all sorts of digestive issues. Look for real peppermint tea at your health food or grocery store. Make sure it is made of real peppermint, not just peppermint-flavored. Drink the tea as needed to alleviate symptoms of gas and bloating.

Another useful tea that you can make yourself to help with symptoms of gas contains a few different herbs. Simply combine equal parts of dried chamomile, dried peppermint, dried valerian root, caraway seeds and aniseed. Mix together well. To make the tea, put one to two teaspoons of the mixture in one cup of boiling water. Steep for about 10 minutes, strain and drink. This tea contains strong carminatives, which are compounds that help get rid of extra gas in the body. You can find these herbs in bulk at most health food stores.

    Fennel

    • Fennel is classified as a carminative, meaning it is a compound that expels gas and soothes the digestive system. To treat gas, chew one teaspoon of fennel seeds after meals. Chew the seeds completely before swallowing. Look for fennel seeds at well-stocked grocery stores and health food stores.

    Psyllium

    • Psyllium is a fiber supplement that is sold under many different brand names. It helps keep bowel movements regular, and in doing so, can help relieve gas symptoms. Regular bowel movements are critical if you have a problem with flatulence because clogged bowels can lead to unwanted gas and abdominal discomfort. Take about one tablespoon of psyllium in one 8-ounce glass of water daily. It is also important to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables daily to keep your system in top shape. Make sure to drink plenty of water daily as well.
