Things to Try
-
Although not foolproof, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to help make your life easier living with ADD.
First keep a journal of things you need to do. People with ADD often have a hard time keeping everything organized and on schedule, which leads to more frustration and impulsive mood swings.
Getting at least eight hours of sleep a night will help ease and relax the body. Also, avoiding junk food can help because they contain artificial ingredients that are not nourishing. Additionally, avoid food and drinks that contain large amounts of phosphates because an extreme amount of it in the body can lead to hyperactivity. Keeping a diet full of natural foods such as lean meats, vegetables and fruits will help the body and mind deal with the disorder. If you feel that you can't get all of your nutrients from food, take vitamin supplements.

Vitamins are a great combatant for the symptoms of ADD. Be sure to get your B6 vitamins, as they help keep the nervous system running smoothly. Studies have shown that people who show hyperactive signs of ADD are usually lacking in iron. Also, magnesium in diet helps improve concentration. Some little-known herbs that can be used include radix heraclei; it is an herb from China that is used on adults to relieve tension, but it also reduces the effects of hyperactivity. A more popular herbal remedy is ginkgo biloba, which has been shown to improve the overall power of the brain and its functions. Herbs that have a soothing effect on the body and mind include lemon balm and chamomile. Ginseng is a wonderful herbal supplement because it not only helps maintain alertness, but also concentration as well. By incorporating these herbs and vitamins into your healthier diet and taking a bit more care of yourself by resting, you might be able to decrease the symptoms of ADD.
