Alternative for Cortisone 10 Ointment
When you are experiencing a rash or some other type of unexplained skin condition, one of the first things you are prone to do is reach for the typical cortisone ointment. However, this is not the only way to relieve that itching sensation. There is a more natural, holistic way to treat your condition using herbal remedies.-
Herbal Bath
-
One of the quickest ways to get initial relief from your condition is to take a warm herbal bath. There are several herbs that can help in different ways and you can try them separately or in combination. If your skin is malnourished and dry, a bath with the horsetail herb can relieve your itchy symptoms. Create a tea from the herb by adding 3 tbsps. to a cup of boiling water, let it seep for 15 minutes and dump it into some bathwater. Other herbs that can be added to bathwater are chamomile, peppermint and oat straw, which can help relieve inflammation and take away itchy sensations. Peppermint oil on its own can be applied after the bath to stop the itchiness.
Ointment
-
After your bath is done, you can apply any one of these two herbal ointments. Calendula is an effective herbal ointment on problems ranging from broken sores to a general rash and itchiness. Apply it liberally to your problematic area to experience relief. Witch hazel is also an effective remedy because it has been used to heal inflammation, sunburn, stings, bruises, poison ivy, diaper rash, bedsores and eczema. Put on an ointment with witch hazel twice a day at morning and night. These creams can be purchased at most natural food stores.
Internal Herbs
-
There are herbs that you can take orally to help your system in relieving inflammation and other possible cortisone-worthy symptoms. Tumeric is a popular spice in Indian cooking that has been used in Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine for thousands of years. It has been used on wounds, to reduce cholesterol and to take care of inflammation. Take 400 milligrams of the tumeric extract (curcumin) three times a day or liberally add the actual spice to your diet. Ashwaganda is an Indian herb (sometimes called Indian ginseng) that has been used in place of cortisone in Ayurvedic medicine because it may be able to reduce inflammation more effectively. Consult a herbal or Ayurvedic practitioner to receive proper dosing and diagnosis for ashwaganda.
