Herbal Remedies for Lowering Cholesterol

High cholesterol affects both men and women, and can become a serious health issue. High cholesterol can lead to things like heart attacks, strokes and in many cases, death. Controlling cholesterol naturally has become much easier because of countless studies that have shed light on what increases, decreases and controls cholesterol.
  1. Garlic

    • Garlic is one of nature's cure-all remedies. The healing enzymes have been used to battle things like coughs, colds, the flu and digestive problems. Incorporating garlic into your daily diet will not only help lower your cholesterol levels, but will also lower blood pressure and help prevent things like cancer and other systemic problems. You also are advised to include plenty of onions along with the garlic consumption.

    Beans

    • Beans are one of nature's super foods. They are packed with fiber and protein, which are two of the best things to help lower cholesterol. Try having one cup of beans every day and over time you could lower your cholesterol levels by as much as 19 percent. Many different types of beans are out there, all of which are good for you, so you can mix it up on a daily basis until your cholesterol is where it needs to be. After you lower your cholesterol enough, you may cut back your bean intake if you like.

    Capsaicin

    • Capsaicin is found in many different plants, but mostly in hot peppers like jalapenos, habaneros and chilis. It has been well documented over the years that adding hot peppers to your daily diet can lower cholesterol over time. This does not mean you need to start eating whole jalapenos or chili peppers. This can be accomplished by simply adding a dash of cayenne pepper to your scrambled egg-whites or over your vegetables.

    Avocado

    • After many years of testing, science has concluded that the avocado will lower cholesterol levels even though it is very high in fat. Although it is now confirmed to lower cholesterol, very small portions are recommended and it is advised not to eat avocado every day because of the higher fat content. One or two slices on a salad or whole wheat toast are great ways to enjoy avocado in a healthy way.
