Yellow Root Remedies

Yellow root is a plant that contains berberine, which has anti-inflammatory, astringent, immunostimulant and antimicrobial properties. Native Americans used Yellow root as a tea for medicinal purposes, treating stomach ulcers, mouth ulcers and skin conditions. The plant has been used in modern times to treat a variety of conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver.
  1. Mouth Wash

    • Yellow root can be used as a natural astringent mouth wash and a remedy for mouth ulcers, gum disease, and sore throats.

      Infuse a cup of water with 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried yellow root. Gargle with the natural astringent for three minutes before spitting it out.

    Skin Remedy

    • Powdered yellow root can be sprinkled on infected cuts and abrasions to help heal wounds quickly and prevent bacterial infections.

      Yellow root salve can be applied as a remedy for chapped lips and dry skin.

    Acid Reflux

    • Yellow root has been used by Native Americans for a variety of stomach and digestive ailments. Yellow root tea can be used as a natural acid reflux remedy.

      Take one quarter ounce of dried roots or stems of Yellow root and boil it in 16 ounces of water. Strain the tea through a cheese cloth or tea strainer, and allow it to cool. The tea should not be cold, but it should not be very hot when you are drinking it. Stir in honey or your favorite sweetener before drinking half of the prepared liquid. Store the other half in the refrigerator and drink the next time you feel symptoms of acid reflux.
