Reishi Herb Treatments
Reishi or (ray-shee) mushrooms are highly popular in the Orient and are used extensively to treat low immunity and improve vitality. Holistic and natural health practitioners prescribe mushrooms for many different types of ailments, but reishi mushrooms come out ahead in being able to treat a wide variety of ailments safely and effectively.-
High Blood Pressure
-
Reishi can be used effectively to treat high blood pressure. It can be used as a preventative measure and as a medicinal treatment for high blood pressure symptoms. To treat existing high blood pressure readings, take 2,000 to 4,000 mg daily in capsule form. Reishi is readily available at health food stores or through mail order. Look for concentrations strong enough to supply the recommended dose of 2,000 to 4,000 mg a day without taking too many capsules.
Hangover Cure
-
Reishi can be helpful in treating symptoms of hangover if you have overindulged. Reishi helps the liver process alcohol. Take three 60 mg capsules twice a day for relief. Often reishi is combined with ginger; this makes it an even better hangover remedy, because ginger calms the stomach and digestive tract.
Low Immunity
-
Reishi is capable of boosting low immune function in the body. Reishi powder is available in encapsulated form in many health food stores. Follow dosing instructions carefully. It is also available in a tincture and tea form. Again, follow dosing instructions closely.
Significance
-
Reishi contains several different components like sterols, coumarin, polysaccharides and triterpenoids or ganoderic acids. The ganoderic acids seem to lower blood pressure readings along with lowering LDL cholesterol levels. Triterpenoids also help to prevent blood platelets from sticking together, which can lower the risk of heart disease.
Side effects from reishi are dizziness, dry mouth, digestive upset and nose bleeds. These effects may develop after using reishi for more than three months. Do not take reishi if you are taking blood thinners or are pregnant. Consult with your physician if you have any questions or concerns when using herbal supplementation.
