Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a perfect example of an alternative therapy that really works to clear up acne. Tea tree oil has antiseptic properties which help to clear and heal problem area on the skin. For treating mild acne symptoms, tea tree oil is comparable to a 5 percent solution of benzoyl peroxide solution. Make your own acne treatment cream by combining five drops of tea tree essential oil and 1 tsp. of fragrance-free, dye-free and oil-free lotion. Apply three times a day for good results. You can find plain lotion of this type in any health food store.
Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is an excellent astringent that has a long history. Blot acne prone areas with a witch hazel soaked cotton ball three times a day. Witch hazel helps to kill bacteria on the skin, along with reducing oil production. The witch hazel herbal solutions contains high levels of tannins, which are responsible for drying the skin, and having astringent effects.
Lavender

To treat acne scarring, massage a few drops of lavender essential oil into skin. Lavender has potent antiseptic and antibacterial actions that help promote healing of acne scars. Results from this treatment should appear in a week or two. You can find lavender essential oil in your local health food store, along with ready-made lotions and cream that contain lavender.
Herbal Tea

To regulate hormones that can affect skin and cause acne eruptions, drink 1 or 2 cups of hormone balancing tea a day. Make your own tea by combining 1 tsp. of chasteberry leaves with 1 tsp. of calendula leaves, mix into 1 cup of water, boil and steep for 10 minutes. Drink hot. This tea is effective in helping to regulate hormones like estrogen and progesterone in women. It may take two or three menstrual cycles to notice an effect in the appearance of the skin.
