Xocai: Healthy Dark Chocolate

Xoçai is a healthy dark chocolate product made up of primarily cacao, pure chocolate, and açaí berries. The name is also used for the relationship marketing company, called MXI Corporation, behind the product created by former teacher, Jeanette Brooks, and partner Andrew N. Brooks. Xoçai is produced in several different forms.
  1. History

    • Cacao, the substance from which chocolate is made, has been around since ancient times. Chocolate, in its present form, has existed since the 1700s. Xoçai was created in 2005. The name is derived from a combination of XO from xocolatl (an ancient Central American cacao drink) and CAI from Açaí (a healthy berry from the Amazon). Xoçai was created to capitalize on the American obsession with chocolate. In July 2009, Xoçai presented figures stating Americans consume 12 pounds of unhealthy chocolate and 50 pounds of unhealthy cookies per year.

    Significance

    • Xoçai claims to be the first and only healthy dark chocolate distributor to use the relationship marketing model, giving opportunities to many people to increase their quality of life while offering a product with measurable benefits. Their figures tout 43 percent annual sales growth and they have remained debt-free since their inception in 2005.

    Benefits

    • MXI Corporation states that healthy dark chocolate provides the benefits of weight loss, energy and increased health and well-being. Dr. Stephen Warren, the company's chief medical adviser, says because dark chocolate and açaí berries are high in antioxidants and the ingredients of Xoçai products are mostly unprocessed, Xoçai products have the ability to effectively fight free radicals, which ravage the body and cause disease and aging. The FDA created the ORAC Test to verify the amount of antioxidants in a substance, and Xoçai displays the numbers for each of their products on their website.

    Types

    • Xoçai comes in liquid, candy, cookie and bar form. Xoçai Activ is the currently available liquid form, though there is also Sipping Chocolate, a powdered drink mix. Nuggets, Omega squares, XoBiotic squares and Power squares look the most like candy bought off of the grocery shelf. X Powerhouse Cookies are a high-fiber, low-fat alternative to a triple-chocolate cookie. Compare 20g of sugar in a regular cookie to 8g in the X Powerhouse. Their protein bar contains 10g of soy protein, which is comparable with similar products.

    Warning

    • While Xoçai is focused on the chocolate, it is also a business opportunity. As with all business opportunities, there is no guarantee of success.
