As a pain reliever, the herb is most often pressed into an oil or ointment and then applied to the area causing pain. Sometimes capsules consist of a powdered version of St. John's wort, which is made by crushing the herb. Side effects may include photosensitivity and nausea. Also, this herb may interfere with the effectiveness of drugs taken to treat HIV.

Ginkgo is readily available in tea or capsule form and has also been shown to be a powerful antioxidant, which can help rid the body of toxins and promote overall health. It is considered a safe supplement to take and has few side effects, which can include stomach aches and headaches, though these ordinarily are only a result of taking high doses of the herb.

It can be used to treat headaches, migraines and upset stomach and promotes relaxation before sleep. The oil of the herb is excellent for use on the skin and may help heal cuts, scrapes, muscle aches and insect stings.
