Home Remedy for Glowing Skin
-
Keeping the Skin Clean
-
Having clean skin is an important component of having glowing skin. Wash the face twice a day to remove dirt, dead-skin cells and excess oil. A good home remedy for cleansing the skin is yogurt or buttermilk. Both these natural products contain lactic acid. Lactic acid gently exfoliates the skin, removing the surface layer. The fat in these dairy products is also soothing to the skin. Apply either the yogurt or buttermilk to the skin using a cotton ball. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse off with warm water.
Toning the Skin
-
Many skin-care experts suggest using a toner after cleaning the face. Toners are also known as astringents, clarifiers and refreshers. These products help to remove any residue of cleanser. Good homemade toners are lemon juice, witch hazel and vinegar. The lemon juice, apple cider or white vinegar contain natural acids. These mild acids are another way to clean the skin more deeply.
Using Masks and/or Scrubs
-
Masks and scrubs are a great way to exfoliate the skin or remove the buildup of dead skin. While the skin renews itself, sloughing off the old, dead skin makes it easier for the new skin to reach the surface. New skin usually has a better texture and glow than the dead skin. Baking soda mixed with water makes a good scrub. Apply the paste to the skin and massage it in. Wait a few minutes and then rinse off. Oatmeal is another popular scrub. Add water to dry oatmeal to make a paste. Massage mixture into the skin and then rinse with warm water. Fuller's earth or powdered wheat germ is used for masks. Add water to either substance and apply to the skin. Leave on for 10-to-15 minutes and then rinse off. The massaging action improves circulation and brings more blood to the area. Afterward, your skin will be smoother, softer and glowing.
