Alternative Malaria Treatment

Malaria is an infectious disease transmitted person to person by blood that has been infected by mosquitoes. Malaria is caused by a total of four different single-cell parasites known as Plasmodium. These parasites are spread through the female mosquito and while all four cause illness, only one--Plasmodium flaciparum--can become fatal. If malaria is suspected, visit your physician immediately. However, there are several natural remedies that can help treat this disease.
  1. Cinnamon and Honey Treatment

    • There are three main compounds within cinnamon oil that provide medicinal benefits. These include cinnamyl acetate, cinnamaldehyde and cinnamyl alcohol. Some of the other properties that are found within cinnamon include calcium, iron, fiber and manganese. Commonly, cinnamon is used to relieve gases from the digestion tract, and as treatment for acne, asthma, heavy menstruation as well as shortening the duration of the common cold.

To begin malaria treatment with cinnamon start by boiling 1 cup of water. Once the water is in a rolling boil, add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder to the liquid. Allow the cinnamon to boil in the water for 2 minutes before removing from heat and placing into a glass. Add 1 tablespoon of honey for taste, and drink two times per day. Always consult your physician before starting this malaria treatment, especially if they have already started you on an alternate malaria treatment.

    Feverfew

    • Feverfew, also known as Tanacetum parthenium, is closely related to the sunflower and has been utilized for its medicinal purposes since early European civilizations, according to the University of Maryland's Medical Center. The main purpose of this herb is to reduce fever. Parthenolides is the main compound that provides medical benefits within feverfew. This compound reduces inflammation and lowers fevers associated with malaria, influenza as well as with the common cold. This herb is available in capsule, tablet and in a dried extract form. Taking this herb in capsule form is easiest for those with malaria, especially if you are experiencing intense nausea. Consume 200 milligrams of feverfew per day with 8 ounces of water. Discuss this herb with your physician before you take it to ensure its safety and effectiveness with your type of malaria.
