IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, is a digestive disorder that causes problems in normal bowel movements. The symptoms are cramping, irregular bowel movements, diarrhea, bloating, constipation and gas. There are natural herbs that can help ease the symptoms of IBS.

    Slippery Elm

    • Slippery elm has been used for many years by the Native American Indians to treat many health conditions. Slippery elm can calm irritation caused by IBS because it coats the intestinal lining. Slippery elm is a tree extract that is often used in powder form to treat IBS.

    Amalaki

    • Amalaki can be used to treat constipation caused by IBS. It also has a positive effect on overall digestion. Amalaki is a tree found in Asia where its extract is used for medicinal purposes such as treating a cough, eating disorders, skin diseases and tumors.

    Triphala

    • Triphala is a combination of three fruits; these three fruits are from the bibhataki tree, haritaki tree and the amalaki tree. Besides its laxative effects, it also can ease abdominal pain and bloating.

    Berry Leaf Tea

    • Berry leaf tea can be made from blueberry, blackberry and raspberry leaves. These herbal teas can reduce inflammation and ease diarrhea.
