Uses of Aconite

Aconite is a plant found primarily in England. Though some may tout its medicinal properties, aconite is extremely toxic and therefore very dangerous to ingest. Aconite can be deadly. However, some find it useful in alleviating the symptoms of skin conditions as well as internal problems such as heart disease.
  1. For the Heart

    • Some believe that cardiac arrest can be stopped or prevented by the use of aconite. However, as aconite is highly poisonous, attempting this requires great care and is not recommended. Aconite reduces the heart's rate and force and therefore also has a favorable impact on blood pressure.

    Topical Ointment

    • The painful symptoms of neuralgia, lumbago and rheumatism can be eased with an aconite ointment applied directly to the skin. Aconite used in this way can cause numbness and may be applied with a brush so not to unintentionally numb the fingers.

    Other Uses

    • Aconite can ease the symptoms of throat irritations, such a laryngitis and tonsilitis. Aconite is also useful in reducing fevers, as in cases of pneumonia and severe colds. Additionally, aconite is used to treat nerve pain, headache, anxiety, cancer, bronchitis, gout and sciatica.
