Plus, it makes food taste weird and, to top it off, no matter how many times you blow your nose, it re-stuffs within minutes in most cases. Fortunately, many home remedies to clear a stuffy nose work quite effectively. Once you know what they are, you can dig through your cabinets and try one out.-
Natural Antihistamine
-
Many herbs you can take to try will stop the histamine response that often causes a runny nose. You can try a glass of chamomile or rooibos tea because chamomile is a natural antihistamine. Or, you can try a steam inhalation of lavender, which is also a natural antihistamine.
Sinus Cleanse
-
Whenever you have nasal congestion, it is a good idea to do a sinus cleanse. This will help flush out anything that may be causing irritation and will irrigate the nasal passages. It is best to use a gentle saltwater solution to cleanse the nasal passages. Try to cleanse with a neti pot or a sinus flush. You can also do this with a nasal aspirator. Dissolve 1/2 tsp. of salt in eight oz. of water. Suck the water into the nasal aspirator and flush out each nostril. Blow your nose when you are done.
Let it Flow
-
Oftentimes, making your nose run more can also be helpful. It allows whatever may be irritating you to run out. There are two easy ways to make your nose run more. You could eat spicy food. Eat something with cayenne in it because cayenne has capsicum, which will help reduce swelling of your nasal passages. You can also try inhaling the vapor of eucalyptus or peppermint to trigger more nasal secretion.
