Herbal Cough Medicine Recipe

Using herbal remedies to cure a cough is common. The healing powers in such things as herbal tea, garlic and ginger are very effective in subduing a cough, but in order to utilize their healing enzymes, you first need to prepare them properly.
  1. Herbal Tea

    • Herbal tea is very easy to make, and there are so many different types that it can be hard choosing the right one for a cough. Naturalists and nutritionists believe the best forms of herbal tea available to battle a cough are black tea and chamomile tea. To prepare, boil water in a kettle on the stovetop and pour the water into a heat-resistant mug. Add the tea of your choice and let steep for one to two minutes. Add a splash of lemon juice to help release the healing enzymes of the tea into the water. Stir in a tablespoon of honey and drink slowly.

    Garlic

    • Just the sound of garlic cough syrup makes people cringe, but it is so effective in treating a cough that you can compare its effectiveness to that of pharmacological cough syrups. It also does not taste as bad as it sounds. To prepare, chop up a handful of garlic cloves and place them into a mason jar. Completely cover the garlic with honey and securely fasten a lid onto the jar. Place the mixture into the refrigerator and let marinate for at the very least 24 hours. When you wake up take a tablespoon of the mixture to help your cough for the better part of the morning hours. As you feel the urge to cough throughout the day, take a tablespoon of the mixture to suppress that urge.

    Ginger

    • Ginger can be purchased in many different forms. For this application, either whole ginger root or sliced ginger is the best to use. If you are using whole ginger root, slice it into very thin pieces. Place the pieces in your mouth and chew until the urge to cough melts away.
