How to Treat a Black Eye with Home Remedies

Maybe you walked into a door. Or maybe you walked into a fist but either way, you're sporting a shiner. Because blood from an injury above or around the eye area tends to pool in the eye socket, it's tough to disguise. However, with a little luck and some home remedies, you can lessen the visual impact and maybe even the duration of the black eye.

Instructions

Put your eye on ice for 20 min. intervals starting as soon as possible after you're injured and repeating every few hours for the first 24 hours. Although ice cubes will work, it's better to use something that forms to your eye socket, such as a bag of frozen peas or frozen corn. Put a dishcloth between the frozen product and your eye.

Add Vitamin C to your diet to speed healing. Increase your Vitamin C intake to 1000mg a day until the shiner fades away.

    • 3

Eat enzymes to treat a black eye. You can find these available in capsule form in the health food store, or you can boost your enzyme intake naturally by consuming pineapple and papaya. Have at least one serving three times a day until the black eye is gone.

Avoid aspirin or you may make your black eye worse. Aspirin naturally thins the blood and slows the clotting process. If you need to take a pain reliever, opt for ibuprofen instead.
