Natural Herbal Remedies for Fleas

Fleas can reproduce at a prodigious rate, and are an annoyance for both you and your pet. Thankfully, there are natural options to eliminate fleas and keep chemicals out of your home.
  1. Citrus

    • Citrus is a natural flea repellent. Make a citrus spray to mist on your pet and around the house by boiling sliced lemons in hot water and allowing the mixture to sit overnight.

    Oils

    • Make a homemade flea collar by rubbing lavender oil, citronella oil or tea tree oil on a rope collar or a pet bandana.

    Rosemary

    • A flea dip made from fresh rosemary will help to rid your pet of fleas.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Diatomaceous earth, available at hardware and garden stores, can ward off fleas. Sprinkle around your yard and entrances, but be careful not to let your or your pet's skin or eyes come into direct contact with diatomaceous earth, because it can be irritating.

    Warning

    • Garlic is often reputed to be a good internal flea repellent, but don't feed it to your dogs. Garlic can cause hemolytic anemia in canines. A safer alternative is brewer's yeast for cats and dogs.
