Oil of Oregano Cold Cure
Oil of oregano is an excellent natural treatment for the common cold. This essential oil has antimicrobial and antiviral properties and is highly effective against a variety of infections and illnesses. The oil can be applied externally or taken internally to ward off cold symptoms. It also acts as a natural antibiotic and has antiseptic properties.-
Types of Oregano Oil
-
There are two types of oregano oil: oregano essential oil and medical-grade oregano oil. The essential oil, mixed with a carrier oil such as olive oil or almond oil, can be applied externally, but should not be used internally. For internal use, it is best to purchase medicinal-grade oil of oregano.
Using Oregano Oil Externally
-
Essential oil of oregano should be mixed with a carrier oil before external use. In a dark-colored glass bottle, mix one part oil of oregano to four parts carrier oil. This diluted oil can then be applied externally to the throat, chest or the soles of the patient's feet. The oil is absorbed through the skin, boosting immunity and helping the body to fight off viruses and bacteria.
Using Oregano Oil Internally
-
To use oil of oregano internally, be sure to purchase medicinal or food-grade oil. Mix the oil with a carrier oil in the same manner you would for an external application. Then add five to six drops to a gel capsule and close the capsule. The capsules can then be swallowed--one every few hours until symptoms subside.
