The Benefits of Neroli Oil
Neroli oil, also known as citrus aurantium oil, is medium brown in color and has a citrus, sweet scent to it. Derived from steam distillation of the little white flowers from the orange tree, it can be used in a variety of ways. In fact, Neroli oil is one of the ingredients in traditional eau de cologne.-
Aromatherapy
-
Add a few drops of Neroli oil to your next hot bath or your massage oil next time you hit the day spa. The aroma will create a calming, soothing effect on your mood and help to promote your parasympathetic nervous system, which aids in relaxation or the body and mind. Neroli oil is even sited to relieve feelings of depression, anxiety and shock when inhaled (see link in Resources).
Antiseptic
-
Neroli oil is also popping up in skin care lines and deodorants due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It is chosen to fight against dirt and oil that could otherwise clog pores and cause blemishes. Neroli oil is also purported to help combat insomnia (see link in References).
Skin
-
Applied topically, Neroli oil promotes cell regeneration and has been used to treat stretch marks and scars. Neroli oil also pops up on under eye creams occasionally to help reduce the appearance of broken capillaries that manifest themselves as dark under-eye circles. Additionally, Neroli oil helps to promote circulation and skin elasticity, giving skin a youthful look and feel (see links in References).
Digestion
-
Neroli oil infused tea or supplement of Neroli oil can be taken to treat your upset stomach due to diarrhea, colitis or intestinal disorders. When applied topically to the abdominal region, Neroli oil can help lessen the effects of menstrual cramping, discomfort and bloating as well (see link in Resources).
Considerations
-
Consult with your physician before beginning any new supplements, as they will know if there are any contraindications. Report any side effects immediately and discontinue use until instructed otherwise. Different skin products work for different people; keep this in mind while finding the right ingredients for your skin type and symptoms. Do not take Neroli oil to combat nausea associated with pregnancy, as there is not enough research to show that it is safe to take while pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing.
