Natural Herbs for Sinuses

The sinuses are a sensitive part of our bodies. They can become easily infected after experiencing an allergy attack, having hay fever or a cold. There are several herbs you can take both to help and prevent a sinus infection. Most of these herbs can easily be found at your local grocery or health-food store. Be sure to discuss taking any herbs with your doctor since some can interfere with certain medications.
  1. Adding herbs to your food

    • The easiest way to take herbs for sinuses is to add helpful herbs to the foods that you already enjoy. Garlic, onion, oregano and horseradish are herbs that can prevent and cure sinus infections. Garlic is especially well known as a natural antibiotic. Sprinkle these herbs on meats or add them to soups.

    Take supplements

    • Echinacea is a natural immune-system booster and can fight off bacterial, viral and fungus infections, including those in the sinuses. Goldenseal is also a good natural antibiotic. Buy one of these herbs and take it according to package directions to keep your sinuses healthy.

    Inhale herbs

    • If your sinuses are giving your trouble, boil a few cups of water in a pan and add two to four drops of eucalyptus essential oil and/or peppermint essential oil. Remove the pan from the heat, drape a towel over your head and lean over the pan, inhaling the steam. The steam in and of itself will help to open the sinus passages. The essential oils will help to open them up further and soothe the sinuses. Never ingest the essential oils because they could be toxic.
