Why Choose Beeswax?
Hard-working bees provide many useful task and alternatives to toxic products. They are responsible for pollinating the flowers that develop into fruits and vegetables that populate our markets. Bees also produce honey from flower nectar, which is used in many baked goods, sauces and other products. Bees produce beeswax, which is used in many more of the products we use everyday.-

At a certain age of their lifespan, female honeybees produce beeswax from wax glands. Typically, a bee has to consume 8 lbs. of honey to produce 1 lb. of beeswax. The beeswax is used to shape and construct their homes and to store honey. It is molded into a cell with six sides and capped with a wax cover. The top layer is removed when honey is harvested. Originally, beeswax is clear and colorless when it is secreted.
Healing
-
Beeswax contains Vitamin A, which aids the normal development of cells. It has antiseptic properties that are useful for healing wounds. It was traditionally used in folk medicine for this purpose. When beeswax is used on the skin, it softens and soothes it by retaining moisture.
Skin Care
-
Beeswax is typically used as a natural ingredient in skin care products. It also helps to thicken products. Beeswax increases moisture in the skin and helps relieve itching and other skin irritations. Beeswax also has the ability to increase the effectiveness of sunscreens. It is commonly found in lipstick, balms, lotions, nail cream, sun products, make up, cold creams and foundation creams. Typically, beeswax does not create allergic reactions like some skin products can unless you are allergic to bees. It is also less polluting and toxic than chemicals used in products that do not use beeswax.
Hair Care
-
Beeswax can be used on hair, as well. Sometimes, it is added to natural conditioners. It can also be used as a styling hair wax. Hair wax is typically made by melting and mixing beeswax with various oils and butters like cocoa butter. Beeswax is often used to sculpture dreadlocks, as well. It helps to bind the hair until strands lock together to form dreads. The wax can be used throughout the dreading process whenever they become loose or need extra tightening.
Candles
-
Beeswax is a safer alternative to paraffin candles, which release toxic by-products when burned. Most candles are made from paraffin. Some chemicals released when paraffin is burned are considered carcinogenic. Beeswax, on the other hand, attracts pollutants such as molds, bacteria, dust, odor and viruses. Once these toxins are attracted by the beeswax, they are neutralized. Beeswax does not let off toxic chemicals and can actually improve your air quality. It is a natural and safe alternative for candle making, as well. Beeswax often comes in sheets that can be rolled into candles or blocks that can be melted.
