Herbal Teas Effects

Various plants have been brewed into teas for at least 5,000 years in China. Many legends exist about the beginnings of tea, but its history remains unclear. The effects of herbal tea are as wide and varied as the types of herbs used to make tea. Many herbs can brewed by themselves or with a combination of other herbs to enhance their healing properties.
  1. Celery Seed

    • A tea steeped with celery seeds brings on menstruation in women suffering from irregularities. Celery seed tea also helps to soothe indigestion, nervous stomach problems and soothe the emotions. It is a strong diuretic that should be taken with extra water when used.

    Jasmine

    • Jasmine tea can help with pain relief, problems with the uterus and menstrual cramps. Jasmine is anti-inflammatory and can help with joint problems. The tea is also an antidepressant that helps soothe the nerves.

    Milk Thistle

    • Tea made from milk thistle seed and taken daily for several months is used to strengthen the liver and gall bladder. It might also help relieve gallstones and inflammations.

    Peppermint

    • Peppermint tea is a cooling tea that can help reduce negative effects cause from heat. It can be used by itself, or it often is mixed with other herbs such as elder flowers for colds and sinus problems. Peppermint tea can be drunk during meals to aid digestion.

    Hay Fever

    • Hay fever can be relieved by drinking a combination of elderflowers and eyebright in a tea. If the tea is taken three times a day a few months before hay fever season, it can help to prevent attacks.
