Cherry Fruit & Its Uses

The Romans are credited with discovering cherries in modern-day Turkey in the year 70 B.C. Cherries grow on a tree, and are available in sour and sweet varieties.

    • Grand Traverse Resort and Spa developed five different products derived from cherries for external use, like Cherry Moisture Seal for healing, Cherry Smoothie Bath, Cherry Shower Gel and Cherry Body Polish.

    Combat Disease

    • Sweet cherries contain antioxidants, perillyl alcohol and melatonin, which are believed to help reduce the risk of heart attacks and protect the body against cancer. Cherries are also used to help reduce inflammation within the body.

    Cherries Jubilee

    • Cherries can be mixed with sugar, cornstarch, cherry juice and cognac to make a sweet cherry sauce. This sauce can be ladled over vanilla ice cream to create cherries jubilee.

    Cherry Pie

    • Cherries can be combined with tapioca pudding, almond extract, vanilla extract, sugar, salt and butter to make cherry pie filling.

    Cherry Jam

    • Cherries can be combined with sugar, pectin and lemon juice to create homemade cherry jam.
