Kidney Cleansing Herbs
Kidneys filter out toxins. As with any filter, keeping the filter clean aids the filter in performing its job. Kidneys can become inflamed and infected. When that happens, they can't excrete salt and waste material as they should. Then the bloodstream becomes toxic. Therefore, keeping kidneys flushed of toxins can aid in their overall, continued functioning.-
Herbs That Help
-
Dandelion root (or extract) and pumpkin extract aid the kidney's ability to flush waste products. These are especially helpful in dealing with nephritis. Goldenrod tea, marshmallow root, juniper berries, nettle, parsley, red clover, uva ursi, couch grass, horsetail and corn silk also are helpful in dealing with both kidney and bladder problems. Herbs work as diuretics, antiseptics or even antibiotics. They flush and soothe the kidneys.
Herbal Teas
-
Drinking a quart of marshmallow root tea daily can strengthen the bladder while helping cleanse the kidneys. As well, it is reputed to expel kidney stones. Buchu tea is also good for kidneys, but it should not be boiled. And look for herbal diuretics from health food stores.
Additional Foods
-
Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice inhibits bacteria growth by acidifying urine, so drink at least three glasses daily. Eat more raw foods. Garlic, potatoes, celery, parsley, watercress, asparagus, cucumbers, papaya, bananas and green vegetables should be in your diet. Watermelon and pumpkin seeds also can be beneficial.
