The Effects of Yohimbe Bark Extract
Yohimbe bark extract is produced from the bark of the yohimbe tree, an evergreen that grows in Western Africa. The bark contains yohimbine, a chemical that has proven effective in combatting erectile dysfunction and combatting depression.-
Types
-
Yohimbine hydrochloride is a prescription-only medication used to combat male impotence. The active ingrediant, yohimbine, is found in trace amounts (about 6 percent) of yohimbe bark and yohimbe bark extract, which can be found at nutritional retailers.
Prevention of Depression
-
Because yohimbine is a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor and dilates blood vessels, it may be a viable natural alternative to anti-depressants.
Prevention of Erectile Dysfunction
-
Yohimbine is also a blocking agent of alpha-2-adrenergic. That means it stimulates the central nervous system. Combined with the benefits of blood vessel dilation, low doses are reported to have helped to prevent male impotence.
Dosage
-
Five to 10 drops of yohimbe bark extract, three times daily, is the dose recommended by many distributors. This dose is appropriate for both the treatment of depression and erectile dysfunction.
Warning
-
People on anti-depressants or who have a history of kidney or heart problems should not use yohimbine or yohimbe bark extract. Due to limited amounts of data, side effects may vary and could include rash, skin flushing, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, diarrhea, increased frequency of urination, kidney failure and muscle aches.
