How to Make an Herbal Neck Wrap
An herbal neck wrap is a great way to relieve tension and to soothe tired, aching muscles. If you don't want to pay a great deal of money, but would like an herbal neck wrap of your own, why not make one? With some cornmeal, dried herbs, scrap fabric, and a needle and thread, you can make an herbal neck wrap that can be heated and applied again and again. Herbal neck wraps also make great inexpensive gifts for our stressed out friends and relatives.Things You'll Need
- 8 x 30 inch piece of fabric
- Needle and thread
- Cornmeal
- Dried herbs
- Essential oil (optional)
- Paper towels

1
Fold the piece of fabric in half, so that it measures 4 x 15 inches. Sew three of the sides up using a needle and thread or sewing machine, but leave one end open for adding the filling to the herbal neck wrap.
-
2
In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine about four cups of cornmeal, organic if possible, with one cup of dried herbs of choice. Try to use herbs that are relaxing in your herbal neck wrap, such as chamomile, lavender, catnip, and/or lemon balm. Use a combination of any of these herbs, or any of them alone.
-
3
Stir well to thoroughly combine the cornmeal and relaxing herbs. This will make the filling for your herbal neck wrap. If desired, add 10-20 drops essential oil to the mixture for added relaxation properties.
-
4
Turn your partially sewn fabric inside out, so that the seams are inside, and fill it with the cornmeal and herb mixture. Do not pack too tightly. Your herbal neck wrap should be loose to make it easier to position later.
-
5
Sew up the open side of the herbal neck wrap using a needle and thread or sewing machine. Make sure you don't spill any of the filling while you sew.
-
6
Place the herbal neck wrap on a stack of paper towels, and put it in the microwave. Heat the wrap on high for 2-3 minutes. This will sterilize it and remove any excess moisture.
-
7
To use, simply heat the herbal neck wrap for several minutes in the microwave on high, and then place around the neck. Check it on your arm to make sure it's not too hot before using.
