Herbal Remedies for Treatment of Headaches

Headaches can be very aggravating and painful. Headache pain can range from mild discomfort to agonizing torment. Many over-the-counter medications are available to treat headaches, but most of these medications can have unwanted side effects. Luckily, many herbal treatments are very effective at treating headaches.
  1. Chamomile

    • Chamomile is an herb that can be used in a tea and is very soothing for headaches.

    Feverfew

    • Feverfew has been known to reduce inflammation and to decrease headache pain. You can use feverfew in a tea or in a tincture.

    Valerian Root

    • Valerian root is a mild sedative that can alleviate headache pressure. You can use Valerian root in tincture form for maximum potency.

    Lavender

    • Use lavender in a compress on your forehead, and it will reduce the pain of your headache. Just add a few drops to a warm, wet cloth, and lay it across your forehead.

    Thyme

    • Thyme can be used as a steam to reduce headache pain. Simply add dried thyme to hot boiling water, lower your face 12 inches (no closer) over the bowl, and cover your head with a towel. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes.
