Benefits of Wheatgrass
-
Wheatgrass is a tonic that helps virtually all of the body's systems perform better because it works at the cellular level. It is high in oxygen, amino acids, minerals and enzymes and helps detoxify the body, even of heavy metals. It improves digestion and prevents/cures constipation, as well as being an antioxidant.
Wheatgrass is naturally antiseptic and antibacterial and can be used as a natural deodorant because it neutralizes and kills odor-causing bacteria. It can be used internally as well as externally.
History
-
Charles F. Schnabel was an agricultural chemist who experimented with wheatgrass after trying to find a solution for his ailing chickens. He fed them wheatgrass, and not only did they improve health-wise, their egg production doubled. He retried the experiment the following year, with the same results, before giving it to his family and friends as a health tonic. Schnabel shared this information with Quaker Oats and American Dairies, which invested money for further experiments.
By the 1940s, wheatgrass became available throughout the country as a health supplement.
How Is It Taken?
-
The average dosage is 3.5 g per day for normal health regimens. Ask your physician what she recommends for your dosage.
Can I Grow It at Home?
-
Kits available for purchase allow you to grow wheatgrass in your home. It usually takes 8 to 14 days from planting to harvest in home conditions, although Charles F. Schnabel grew his wheatgrass slowly, overwintering the grass for 200 days.
Fresh Is Best
-
The fresher the wheatgrass is and the closer it is to its natural state, the more nutrition it has. Although the human body cannot digest grass in its natural state, juicing and drying it make it digestible.
Buy your wheatgrass from a reliable source to ensure you are getting the freshest, most nutritionally sound product.
