Fill a tub with warm water and 1 tablespoon of epsom salts. Put a few drops of tea tree oil, basil oil, garlic oil or lavender oil in the water. Soak feet twice daily for 10 to 15 minutes and pat dry, to discourage nail fungus and treat athlete's foot (also a fungus infection). It's safe to pour the water down any drain, and even into the septic tank. Or, use it in the garden; its powerful properties can help kill harmful microbes in the soil and repel insects like aphids and slugs.

Spray a homemade anti fungal spritzer on the feet periodically. In a spray bottle, mix vodka with 5 to 10 drops of any of the fore-mentioned anti fungal essential oils and use on clean bare feet several times a day. Any combination of these oils will work together. Basil oil and garlic oil work quickly, but the odor might be just as unpleasant as the fungus infection. Therefore, you might want to stick with a combination of the tea tree and the lavender.

Drip a drop of undiluted lavender, tea tree, garlic or basil essential oil into the raised area beneath your nail. The essential oils offer powerful medicine to cure fungus, treat the accompanying odor and promote healthy cell growth. This should be done 2 to 3 times a day, after every shower and before bed.

Change socks frequently, or better yet, wear flip flops or sandals. Closed-toe shoes, dirty socks and hot, damp environments can contribute to the growth of a fungus infection. Periodically wash all of your socks in very hot water with a bit of bleach, and machine dry to kill any remaining fungus that is on the socks. If necessary, turn them inside out and repeat to be sure the socks are free from all traces of fungus.
