Burdock root (articium lappa), is also known as Fox Coat, Beggars Buttons and Great Bur. It is a broad-leaved perennial herb with spiny, thistle-like flowers. It is native to North America, Africa and Western Europe. Burdock contains many useful chemicals including biotin, copper, manganese, iron, Vitamins B and E, zinc, sulfur and inulin. The sweet tasting root is the usually the part of the plant used medicinally, though the leaves are sometimes used.

Prepare a burdock tea by bringing 4 cups of fresh water to the boil.

Finely chop 2 tablespoons full of fresh burdock root. If you do not have the fresh root available you may use 2 teaspoons of dried root as an alternative.

Add the root to the boiling water and allow to simmer for 10 minutes then turn off the heat and strain the mixture. Sip slowly while still warm. Drink 3-4 cups daily for improvement of arthritis symptoms.
