How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Heat Exhaustion
Experiencing dizziness, headaches and nausea after a long day in the sun can signify heat exhaustion. After retiring to a shady area, it's necessary to treat the symptoms. Preparations of apple cider vinegar are among some of the many natural remedies that can be used to treat heat exhaustion.Things You'll Need
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- Organic apple cider vinegar
- Baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- Cool water
Instructions

1
Purchase organic, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar at your local health food store. Organic apple cider vinegar will look different than the distilled version that can be found at grocery stores. It should be a rich amber or brown color and look somewhat murky, as opposed to the brightly colored, clear liquid sold in supermarkets.
-
2
Confirm that the apple cider vinegar you have purchased contains the nutrient-containing substance known as the "mother." Hold the container of apple cider vinegar to the light and look for a cobweb-like matter floating in the liquid. This is the "mother."
Use Apple Cider Preparations on Hot Days
-
3
Combine 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 qt. of water. Add ice cubes to create a cool, cleansing beverage to drink on hot days. If the taste is too bitter, add 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon.
-
4
Dissolve 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, 2 tsp. raw honey in 8 oz. of cool water. Drink the mixture to treat dizziness associated with heat exhaustion. The honey makes the concoction both less acidic and more palatable.
-
5
Replace electrolytes and minerals lost by excessive sweating with the sweetened drink. Organic apple cider vinegar contains potassium, magnesium and calcium, among other minerals, all of which are depleted when you have heat exhaustion. Continue to drink the concoction, as tolerated, until dizziness and nausea abate.
-
6
Apply a cool compress of apple cider vinegar and water to the face of a person suffering from heat exhaustion. Alternatively, you can use apple cider vinegar in a tub of cool water for soaking. The alkaline nature of the organic vinegar can help to neutralize increased blood acidity caused by dehydration.
-
7
Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and baking soda to create a paste. Use the paste on sunburned skin to soothe the sting and draw out some of the heat.
