What are the different strains of anthrax?

There are three primary strains of anthrax:

1. Sterne Strain: The Sterne strain is a non-virulent strain of *Bacillus anthracis*. It is widely used in veterinary vaccines.

2. Vollum Strain: The Vollum strain is a virulent strain of *B. anthracis*. It is more pathogenic than the Sterne strain and is associated with livestock and human anthrax infections in North America.

3. Ames Strain: The Ames strain is another virulent strain of *B. anthracis*. It was discovered in 1981 in Ames, Iowa. It is known to be highly virulent and was the strain used in the infamous 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States.

These strains of anthrax vary in their virulence and severity of the infections they cause. While anthrax is a serious and potentially fatal infection, prompt diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and preventative measures such as vaccination can effectively mitigate its risks.
