What is rosecea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness, pimples, and visible blood vessels on the face. It can also cause eye problems, such as dry eyes, redness, and swelling.

Rosacea is a common condition that affects both men and women. It usually begins between the ages of 30 and 50. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is thought to be related to genetics, environmental factors, and immune system dysfunction.

There are four main subtypes of rosacea:

* Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea is the most common subtype. It is characterized by redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels on the face.

* Papulopustular rosacea is characterized by pimples and pustules on the face.

* Phymatous rosacea is a rare subtype that causes thickening of the skin on the nose and cheeks.

* Ocular rosacea affects the eyes. It can cause dry eyes, redness, swelling, and vision problems.

Rosacea can be treated with a variety of medications and lifestyle changes. Treatment options include:

* Topical medications applied to the skin, such as creams, gels, and ointments

* Oral medications, such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and retinoids

* Laser therapy and light therapy

* Lifestyle changes, such as avoiding triggers (e.g., alcohol, spicy food, sun exposure), using gentle skin care products, and getting regular exercise

Rosacea is a chronic condition, but it can be managed with treatment. If you think you may have rosacea, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
