How to Apply a Poultice

- Poultice
- Gauze or sheet
- Bandage clip
- Safety pin
- Paper tape
- Band-Aid

Cool and strain the poultice after heating. Test the poultice with a fingertip before attempting to use it. For best results use a poultice that is warm enough to provide soothing heat, but not hot enough to burn.

Make a bandage using a strip of clean gauze or a sheet and place it on a flat surface. Spread the poultice solution evenly on the center of the bandage.

Carefully lift the bandage containing the poultice solution and place it on the injury. Secure the bandage to the area using bandage clips or a safety pin. If bandage clips or safety pins are not available, tape or Band-Aids can provide a temporary solution.

Keep the bandage dry and check to make sure it is still secure every two hours. Replace the bandage and poultice as necessary.
