Detox Foot Herbs Information
The origin of foot detox is rooted in Asian medicine. Soaking the feet in warm, herb-infused water is an ancient practice that refreshes the body and spirit. In modern times, adhesive pads containing various herbs and minerals are used to achieve similar effects.-
Function
-
Foot detoxification processes stimulate circulation and sweating in the feet. According to manufacturers such as Jadience, foot detoxification re-balances chi, removes toxins from the blood and lymph and promotes health and well-being.
Methods
-
Two major methods are used in foot detoxification. The feet may be soaked in a foot bath containing water, minerals and various herbs for 20 to 30 minutes, or adhesive pads containing herbs and minerals may be applied to the soles of the feet for eight to 10 hours.
Herbs
-
A variety of herbs are used, including milk thistle, grapefruit, green tea, dokudami (Houttuynia cordata) and loquat leaf (Eriobotrya japonica). Other plant-based materials are used in detox pads such as wood vinegar, ginger and ground chili peppers.
Claims
-
Testimonials in favor of foot detoxification on the Ion Chi website include claims of increased energy, more restful sleep and improved mental outlook. Users of the Ion Chi patches and Ionic Detox foot bath report a reduction of pain, but promoters are careful to point out that the materials used in foot detoxification are not approved by the FDA.
Scam or Cure?
-
So far there is little evidence supporting manufacturers' therapeutic claims. Stephen Lower, Ph.D. analysed the process used in the ionic foot baths and demonstrated that the toxins "extracted" are generated by electrodes used in the foot bath itself.
