Sinus Rub Remedies

According to Dr. Murray Grossan, an ear, nose and throat online consultant, more than 35 million people in America suffer from sinus disease. With sinus issues being such a problem, many people are looking for alternatives to using medication. There are many natural and holistic methods for treating sinus congestion, inflammation and infections, but one of the most effective ways is with a sinus rub. Use a sinus rub to treat and sooth irritated sinuses.
  1. Make a Decongestant Rub

    • Make a decongestant rub that will penetrate deep into the sinus cavity with heat and aromatherapy. Mix a ½ cup of olive oil with 1/3 cup of sea salt. Purchase myrrh, goldenseal, cayenne and bayberry from a local herbal store. These can either be purchased in oil form or supplement pill form. If using oil place 5 drops of each herbal oil in the solution and mix well. If using capsules, open 1 capsule of each herb and mix into the solution until all the herbs have dissolved. Lie on your back and have a friend or family member apply the rub directly to the cheeks and forehead. Have him or her message the rub for a few minutes and then you can rest while the natural warming sensation does the rest.

    Make an Antibiotic Rub

    • Make a natural antibiotic rub to ward off possible infection in the sinus cavity. Mix a ½ cup of olive oil with 1/3 cup of sea salt. Purchase tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract at an herbal store. Mix in 6 to 8 drops of tea tree oil and 5 drops of grapefruit seed extract. Warm the mixture on the stove until it reaches 120 degrees. Do not overheat the mixture as it can cause severe burns. Allow the mixture to cool and settle for 20 minutes. Take the warm mixture and gently apply it to your upper cheek bones and forehead. Have a friend or family member gently rub your cheeks and forehead with the mixture.

    Make a Sinus Chest Rub

    • Make a sinus chest rub for congestion and sinus pressure. Create a chest rub designed for your sinuses much like the ones you buy in the store (vapor rub). Buy a jar of petroleum jelly. Scoop out ½ cup and place in a separate container. Purchase thyme oil, eucalyptus oil, menthol oil and fir oil to combined with the petroleum jelly. Mix in equal parts of each oil (6 to 8 drops). Create the rub with as much or as little essential oils as you would like. The more you use, the more intense the aromas will be. Gently apply this rub to your upper chest or lower neck as often as needed to relieve nasal congestion.
