How to Live Holistically

Holistic living is more than a way of life; it is a state of well-being. Those who choose to live holistically are consciously aware of how the choices they make affect their physical health. They also make a conscious effort to improve the environment and to enrich the lives of those around them. They accomplish these things by ensuring that their mind, body and spirit are all in balance, using a variety of means to accomplish this. Living holistically is not something that ever has an end, but rather is always the start of a new journey.

Meditate. Meditation provides those seeking a holistic life a clear and healthy mind as it places them in a deep state of relaxation. Once you have practiced meditating enough, you will feel as though you have been separated from your body, and the state of physical and mental relaxation is profound. This state, once experienced enough, can lead to improved health, greater clarity with problem solving, reduced stress and an increase in creativity. In addition, you will become more in tune with your inner self.

Practice yoga. Yoga is not merely an exercise for the body, it is one that is also practiced for the mind as well. It will produce feelings of inner joy, improve cellular regeneration, provide clarity of the mind and strengthen the muscles of the body.

Change your eating habits. Part of living holistically is to detoxify your body of toxins and impurities put forth from the world around us. One way to accomplish this is to change your diet. Opt for meat that has been free-ranged, meaning that it has not been injected with steroids or hormones. When shopping for produce, it is best to buy from a farmer's market or health food store to ensure that what you are purchasing is free from pesticides and is organic. If at all possible, grow as much of your own food as you can.

Use natural products. These include items such as toothpaste, deodorants and shampoos. When they are all natural, they are void of the chemicals and toxins that build up in your body. Any local health food store will carry these items.

Take pride in the environment. Go green. Rather than using the plastic bags from the grocery stores, purchase the re-usable nylon bags and take them with you to pack your groceries. Instead of using Styrofoam cups and plates, use your own dinnerware and take the time to hand wash them. These are all things that will make a difference in the long run and is a part of living holistically.
