How to Heal Chapped Lips Naturally

Your lips are soft and tender and can't fight environmental elements as well as the rest of your skin. So, it's important to protect them from the sun and wind. Chapped lips can be painful, sore and unattractive. But luckily, there are a few great ways to heal your chapped lips, naturally.

Instructions

Don't lick your lips. Licking your lips is the most common cause of chapped lips. If you are having trouble breaking this habit, make sure to keep your lips well lubricated with petroleum jelly or another all natural salve.

Use an all natural, mineral sunscreen on your lips. The sun can dry out and burn your lips just as it can the skin elsewhere on your body. Use mineral-based lip balms with an SPF of 15 or more, or you can even use regular sunscreen. Be certain to do this if you are heading to a sunny location, like the pool or beach, and especially if you are skiing.

Drink a lot of water. This will hydrate your skin from the inside out and help to keep your lips from getting chapped in the first place.

Apply an all natural salve to your lips, often. Apply the ointment throughout the day and especially at night, before bed. There is a wide array of all natural salves available on the market, but you can also use petroleum jelly, beeswax, coconut oil or olive oil, as well.

Remove dead skin from your lips by exfoliating them with a warm wet washcloth. Do this very infrequently, you do not want to further irritate your lips. Once you're done, immediately reapply a soothing ointment.
