Natural Remedies for Itching & Swelling of Skin Rashes

Skin rashes, a form of dermatitis, can be caused by an irritation of the skin, a disease or an allergic reaction. They cause a change in color and texture of the affected area as well as itching and swelling. Food, plants, chemicals and animals are the usual culprits. There are several home remedies you can use to ease the symptoms. Consult a doctor if the rash is severe or oozing, or if the rash is accompanied by other symptoms of illness.
  1. Olive Oil

    • A body rash can show up as small, red, itchy or non-itchy bumps that can sting and burn; applying olive oil directly to the rash will help ease some of the pain and itching. Olive oil has been around for centuries and is known for its curative properties.

    Oatmeal Bath

    • Another well-known natural remedy for body rashes is oatmeal; look on any cosmetic aisle and you'll see it's still in use today. To help ease itching and swelling of a rash, pour 1 cup of uncooked oatmeal into your bathwater and soak for at least 30 minutes.

    Olive Oil Paste

    • Make a paste of a tablespoon of olive oil, two garlic cloves, salt, pepper and 10 basil leaves; rub this gently on any rash and the itching and swelling will be lessened.

    Herbal Teas

    • There are two herbal teas that have proved effective in easing the itching and swelling of body rashes. They are chamomile and peppermint. Simply brew yourself a cup of one of these and dab it on the rash with a cotton ball as often as necessary. Remember not to scrub the rash, which can cause further irritation.
