Homeopathic Remedy for Bed Sores
Bedsores, or pressure ulcers, initially appear on the skin as red spots. The condition occurs as a result of lying or sitting in the same position for a long period of time. Eventually, the weight of the person's body cuts off blood circulation to that area of the body. Generally, the areas most susceptible to bed sores are the bony areas, such as the hips, heels and buttocks. Listed below are homeopathic remedies for the prevention, as well as the treatment of bed sores.-

When blood flow is hampered long enough, the skin in that region of the body tends to blister. It eventually worsens and dies. If the bed sores go untreated, they may break the skin and reach into fat, muscle and ultimately, bones. People who are confined to beds or wheelchairs, or those who suffer from strokes or from paralysis, are the most susceptible to pressure ulcers. There are some homeopathic remedies that can provide relief and help to cure the problem.
Good nutrition is a major combatant against bed sores. Dr. Mitchell Kaminsky, who is on staff at the University of Chicago Medical School, states the following: "In a scientific study of nursing home patients, we have never found a pressure ulcer in anyone who was well-nourished." Dr. Kaminsky cites poor nutrition and constant pressure as the leading causes in the "creation of bedsores." He advises people to eat the minimum daily requirement for proteins, 6 to 11 servings of unprocessed whole grains, 2 to 4 servings of fruit and 3 to 5 serving of vegetable on a daily basis. Diets should have high fiber content.
Individuals who have a high risk factor for bedsores should also take supplements. Vitamin A, B, C and E are antioxidants that can accelerate the healing process Beta-carotene is also a good source of antioxidants. In addition, people who are bedridden should closely monitor their intake of oils. The best oils for improving blood circulation are omega-3 oils, which are found in fish, canola oil and flaxseed oil. Avoid corn and safflower oil because they increase the level of inflammation and decrease circulation.

Bed sores should be cleaned with a solution of witch hazel, myrrh, turmeric and goldenseal about two to four times a day. The bedsores can also be washed with a sponge soaked in cucumber juice. Bed sores can be effectively treated with a sugar poultice applied directly on the wound to help remove toxins.
Another homeopathic remedy for pressure ulcers is aloe vera, which can be rubbed over the area of the body daily until the sores heal. Wheat germ, comfrey and guana leaves are also excellent natural remedies. A paste consisting of powered comfrey leaves and slippery elm in equal parts is one of the best holistic treatments for bed sores. The mixture should be spread on cloth and tied to the area over night. Calendula is a natural ingredient that is commonly used in salves, ointments and creams for skin problems, including bed sores.
