How to Find a Homeopathic Physician

Finding a good homeopathic physician is as important as finding a good physician who practices western medicine. You need to feel confident that they will be taking your health seriously, giving you sound advice and are willing to refer you to another physician if your health issues are beyond the scope of their expertise. Just like choosing a regular physician, when you look for a doctor who practices homeopathy, you need to ensure that they have the proper credentials and that you and your doctor have a good rapport.

Ask your doctor for a referral. An easy way to find a good homeopathic practitioner is to simply ask your primary care physician for a referral. Homeopathy is becoming more mainstream and many western doctors work in conjunction with alternative medicine. Chances are your doctor will be able to refer you to a qualified homeopathic physician.

Ensure that the homeopathic physician you are seeing has a degree from an accredited school. Ask to see a diploma, then check to see if the school is accredited by the Council on Homeopathic Education. Some examples of accredited programs are: International Foundation for Homeopathy in Seattle, National College of Natural Health Sciences in Portland and Bastyr University in Seattle.

Ask questions. It seems counterintuitive to interview physicians because they are the ones we go to for answers, but asking a few key questions is critical. Just as your doctor asks for detailed information about you, it's important for you to do the same with them. Find out how long they have been practicing, how long their treatments last, how you will know if treatments are working, what the side effects may be, and if your insurance covers the treatments. Get as much information as possible before you begin any treatments.
