Homeopathic Remedies for Lyme Disease

Lyme disease in an infection of the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria and is transmitted to humans by deer ticks. It was first identified in 1975 after a group of children from Old Lyme, Connecticut started having symptoms of an unknown illness. Since that time it has become the most common tick-borne illness in the United States. If Lyme disease has affected you, there are some homeopathic remedies available that can help.

  1. Symptoms

    • Typically, Lyme disease has three stages. Localized is the first stage of development. It is characterized by a red rash that starts at the site of the bite. The rash looks like a bull's eye with the bite penetration as the center. As the disease progresses, the rash will appear in different locations. The second stage begins with fever, headache, body aches, stiff neck and fatigue. The third stage is chronic arthritis affecting all joints, especially the knees.

    Probiotic Supplements

    • Probiotic supplements are referred to as friendly bacteria. Many people take them as a way to regulate the digestive tract. For Lyme disease, they are helpful in combating symptoms that occur from the conventional drugs required to fight the illness, such as antibiotics. They help with diarrhea and nausea as well as preventing yeast infections that will occur with long-term antibiotic use. Probiotics are available in many forms, such as supplements to yogurt (Activa), some bottled waters and capsule forms. There are foods that also contain probiotics. Increasing your intake of leeks, artichokes and honey is a natural approach to probiotic therapy.

    Herbal Supplements

    • Some herbal supplements that improve overall health will combat the fatigue and aches associated with Lyme disease. Good examples are green tea, cat's claw, gingko or garlic. Most are available in capsules and taken as one capsule up to three times daily. Make sure the green tea is caffeine free.

    Warnings

    • Lyme disease is a very serious condition. There are no homeopathic remedies proven to cure it. If you suspect you have contracted Lyme disease, you must seek out professional care. Antibiotic treatment is essential as soon as you show symptoms. The earlier it is caught, the more effective the treatment. Any supplements should be taken only in combination with antibiotics and with your doctor's approval.
