Herbs for Kidney Energy

Herbs can regulate the body by detoxifying organs, cleansing internal systems and energize and revitalize the organs. According to the book "The Essential Guide to Herbal Safety" by Simon Mills, using herbs as a tea, tincture, essential oil or compress can energize your kidneys, which will improve the energy flow in your body.

Always consult with a doctor before using herbal remedies.
  1. Description

    • In Chinese medicine, the kidneys are associated with yin energy and are responsible for filtering the bloodstream for toxins before eliminating liquids in the body through urination. The meridian of the kidneys is called the "root of life". When disfunctioning or weak, the kidneys are related to the feelings of withdrawing or escaping, especially in conjunction with sexual potency, mental clarity and overall self-confidence.

According to herbal specialist Suzanne Bovenizer, CMT, CST, using herbs for these energetic connections can strengthen the kidneys and in effect, strengthen and revitalize self-acceptance, sexual vigor and energy levels.

    Tinctures

    • Tinctures made from corn silk, peach bark, buchu leaf, marshmallow root or echinacea can be used for energizing the kidneys because their properties work to fight kidney infection. Consult with a clerk at your natural foods store or pharmacy for tincture mixtures or purchase these herbs to create your own. Dilute a few drops with water or tea to consume the mixture. Drink this mixture no more than three times a day.

    Essential Oils

    • Essential oils made with peppermint, rosemary, ginger, juniper or cinnamon are excellent for kidney functions and energy.

Essential oils can be used in warm baths. Simply add a few drops to your bath water and soak for at least 20 minutes. You can also meditate while burning these oils help ease the mind and direct the energy to the kidneys. To use these oils for massage, apply to your temples and stomach area and rub in a circular motion.

    Kidney Compressions

    • Chamomile can be used as a hot compress to revitalize the kidneys. Heat up tea or water with chamomile essential oils in it. Dip an old rag in the mixture and place on stomach or pelvis for comfort. You also can wrap tea bags in an old towel. Apply the compress for no more than 20 minutes.
