Electromagnetic Detox of the Body

Popping your dinner plate in the microwave, talking on your cell phone during your commute to work and taking advantage of wireless Internet service all expose you to electromagnetic fields, or EMFs. Although there is no solid link between exposure to EMFs and illness, over the past few decades there has been increased awareness of its potential dangers to your health. Believers in alternative medicine find that certain homeopathic detoxes can help rid the effects EMFs are said to have on your body.
  1. Intolerance to Electromagnetic Fields

    • Devices such as computers, cell phones, TVs, laptop computers, energy-efficient compact fluorescent lighting and Wi-Fi routers have been reported to potentially have a negative impact on the human body.

Electromagnetic radiation is said to affect the electrical impulses your body uses to regulate cell activity. Chronic fatigue, neurological problems and immune system dysfunction have all been linked to electromagnetic radiation along with health conditions such as fibromyalgia and Alzheimer's disease. Persistent fatigue, mental confusion, nausea and disturbed sleep are also symptoms.

    Baking Soda and Salt Bath

    • Followers of alternative medicine believe that in order to rid the body of toxins that electromagnetic radiation causes, you must go through a detox. Try a baking soda and salt bath with 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of sea salt. You can add 1 cup of ground kelp as well. Fill up your bathtub with warm water and add these ingredients. Soak for up to 1/2 hour. The toxins are believed to be released through your pores.

    Oral Medication

    • By doing a simple search on the Internet, you may find a variety of homeopathic pills or other types of medicine that claim to restore your mental and physical abilities after your body is exposed to electromagnetic radiation. There are even cures which you will spray under your tongue up to twice a day. These products can cost up to $15. Ingredients may include X-Ray 200C, which is advertised to stimulate cellular metabolism, and Arnica Montana, advertised to cure general soreness and poor circulation. Note--these treatments are speculative only and do not take the place of medical care; also, see a doctor before trying them.

    Foot Pads and Foot Baths

    • Detox footpads can be found on the Internet and in department stores. Apply these pads to the bottoms of your feet at night and leave them on until you wake up in the morning. As advertised, you will notice the pads have darkened over night due to the toxins being released from your body. There are also detox footbaths or spas that will remove toxins and you can purchase miniature versions of these online or in a department store. (Some, including Dr. Lawrence E. Gibson, M.D., on the Mayo Clinic website, have called the effectiveness of these foot pads into question.)
