Natural Homeopathic Treatments & Remedies for Stomach Pain

Stomach pain can be caused by a great number of things. Some stomach pain is merely annoying, such as gas pains, while other stomach pain may indicate a serious problem, such as appendicitis. If your stomach pain is not caused by a serious underlying condition, you may find relief using natural homeopathic treatments and remedies. To use homeopathy to treat any condition, consider your mental and physical symptoms. Homeopathy treats the whole person, not just symptoms.
  1. Pain Presentation

    • How your pain presents can tell you which homeopathic remedy to choose. If you are experiencing violent stomach cramping and vomiting, choose the remedy Cuprum metallicum. Pain that causes you to double over and is improved by pressure on the stomach calls for the remedy Colocynthis or Magnesia phosphorica. Choose Colocynthis if your pain comes in waves, eating or drinking make your pain worse, and the pain is so intense it makes you feel nauseated. Choose Magnesia phosphorica if warmth, either from a heating pad or from warm drinks, helps minimize your stomach pain or your pain radiates from your navel. Some people find that doubling over makes their pain worse and they feel better standing up; if this describes you, choose the remedy Dioscorea.

    Heartburn and Gas

    • If your pain is from heartburn after eating rich and fatty foods, like ice cream or pork, the remedy Pulsatilla may bring you relief. Other indications for Pulsatilla include finding relief from cold food or drinks and a desire for food you know doesn't agree with you. If starchy foods don't agree with you, you may benefit from the remedy Colocynthis. If you have excessive, noisy gas, can't stand anything snug around your stomach, and you tend to bloat after eating anything, choose the remedy Lycopodium. Other indications for Lycopodium include a tendency to alternate between diarrhea and constipation, and craving sweets. If you have lots of gas but it does not pass easily, choose the remedy Magnesia phosphorica. If you have sour burps, Nux vomica is the recommended remedy. If you are bloated, gassy and burping, and find that your discomfort is relieved by burping, the remedy Carbo vegetabilis may resolve your discomfort.

    How to Use Homeopathic Remedies

    • Once you have selected the appropriate remedy, take three 30C strength pellets every 15 minutes to 4 hours; if you have chosen the correct remedy, you should have relief within three doses and can take repeat doses as needed. If you do not experience relief, choose another remedy or consult a trained homeopath. Other natural treatments for stomach pain include taking charcoal capsules for indigestion, and drinking peppermint or fennel tea to soothe the stomach.

    Cautions

    • Stomach pain can indicate a serious illness or condition. If you have significant or persistent stomach pain, see your doctor. If you have severe stomach or abdominal pain, especially incapacitating pain, seek emergency care. If you are taking prescription medication or under a doctor's care, you should talk with your doctor about alternative and complementary therapies you are using, even though homeopathy is safe. For best results when using homeopathy, consult a trained homeopath.
