Natural Cures for Anxiety & Epilepsy
Millions of Americans suffer from feelings of anxiety due to epilepsy, a disorder wherein the body goes into frequent epileptic shock and the body convulses. Patients diagnosed with epilepsy may panic frequently at the thought of convulsing or going into epileptic shock, particularly in public situations. Although there are a wide variety of medical treatments available to treat these conditions, many patients first attempt to cure the disorders with homeopathic remedies, including natural oils, passionflower and aromatherapy treatments.-
Soothing Natural Oils
-
For patients who suffer from anxiety disorders, a condition caused by panic and frequent worrying, there are a variety of remedies available which aim to reduce the frequency and severity of anxious feelings. Natural oils, including sandalwood and jasmine extracts, have been reported to create a calming effect that can relax the mind and reduce anxious feelings. Available in most health food stores, the oils should be placed in and around the home and applied directly to the skin. Patients using the oils should refrain from strenuous mental activity and turn off any electronics, including televisions, radios, cellphones and computers to reduce noise.
Herbal Supplements
-
In addition to natural oils, passionflower and valerian root supplements have also been shown to reduce anxiety and are considered natural anti-anxiety supplements. Available in most health food stores, passionflower helps to lower blood pressure and reduce hyperactivity in the brain. The supplement has also been proven to reduce nervous tension. Valerian root is also available in most health food stores, and should be taken before bed in either supplement, tea or liquid extract form. While rare, some side effects are possible, including drowsiness, mild stomach discomfort, headache and tachycardia, a condition where the heart beats faster. For best results, homeopathic experts recommend 200 to 300 milligrams of passionflower twice a day, or two capsules of Valerian root before bed.
Aromatherapy
-
Patients who do not find relief from herbal supplements or extracts may find that aromatherapy, a process that utilizes natural essential oils, helps reduce the frequency and severity of anxious feelings. Oils that have particularly strong anti-anxiety properties include cypress, lavender, neroli, jasmine, melissa, ylang-ylang, rose, bergamot and sandalwood. Lavender, the most common oil, is found in most health food stores. When used in baths or massages, these essential oils help to relax the mind and reduce tension. To use, simply add one to two teaspoons of the oil to a warm bath or apply during a massage.
